Soft-mouth trout

The clear waters of the upper course of the Jadro keep the secret of the age and origin of the Solin’s soft-mouth trout, which has its roots in the prehistoric period. The period in which solinka swims freely upstream goes back more than a million years. Ichthyologists claim that with numerous “ancient” physical features, such as short jaws, tiny teeth and a small mouth, it resembles fish from Earth’s ancient past. With an average weight of 2 kg, its body is golden with black, red and orange spots. Three subspecies of soft-mouth trout live in the Croatian rivers Krka, Neretva and Vrljika and the Montenegrian river Zeta. A part of the population was transferred by human hands to the river Žrnovnica, which has good conditions for the life of solinka, in order to ensure the future of its descendants
